Soumya is a student of Phane J. Sen, founder/artistic director/producer of NatyaHasta Centre of Dance performance and classes. She is a talented Bharatnatyam dancer and has represented her dance school in Encore and various other cultural occasions, including Diwali and Sankranti (festivals widely celebrated throughout all of India).
Soumya has performed in Kalamazoo, Michigan in its Rad Festival, in the temple’s celebrations as well and that also includes the Naach Sitare, (meaning “dance star”) competitions as well. She volunteers at a nonprofit organization where she teaches dance to kids so that they can perform in an event called Tarangini. It’s always a pleasure to pass down knowledge to other people and gain it as well no matter if they are older or younger.
Singing, along with dancing is also a passion of Soumya. She performed in an Indian film song competition called Paadutha Theeyaga hosted by a legend in music throughout India, S.P. Balasubramaniyam Garu (as judge). She also likes drawing/painting, playing tennis, playing the piano, violin, and the guitar. All these wonderful activities have helped her become a well-rounded person, in addition to being a dedicated and loyal student.
